This 4-week course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the psychological and social dynamics of intergenerational relationships in families, communities, and society. Through engaging with theories of lifespan social development and developmental psychology, students will explore how empathy, perspective-taking, and communication can bridge generational divides and reduce ageism. The course incorporates project-based learning through innovative models such as ScrippsOMA (arts-based) and ScrippsAVID (virtual-based) interventions, enabling students to gain hands-on experience in fostering meaningful intergenerational connections. Participants will also develop skills to critically evaluate the effectiveness of technology and intervention methods in strengthening cross-age interactions. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to implement basic psychological strategies that promote mutual understanding and collaboration across generations, while cultivating empathy and socially responsible attitudes.
